Welcome to "Air it Out" zone

Mr. Doug Luciano, Montgomery Ele.
This is where students' and parents can give feedback or make comments (Air it Out) about the recent or upcoming lessons.

Mission:
At Montgomery our purpose is to show students a variety of activities and lessons that develop the child physically but also mentally as well, creating the whole student. We start off every lesson with a warm-up that gets the students motiviated and energized. After the warm-up we move on to our lesson of the day and before we leave a reflectioin section to conclude the lesson.

Do you think students get enough P.E./ Physical Activity? If not, how much do you think they should get?

If you could change one thing about P.E. class what would it be?

How do you feel about the P.E. program?

How do you feel about the teachers?

Open Mic Section, feel free to add any addition comments or concerns dealing with P.E.

As a former Phys Ed teacher I'm interested to know what kind of response you receive to these questions. I've put some responses to your questions below.
Personally I feel that elementary teacher need to receive at least a 30 minute period of Physical Education per day.
I would try and reduce the class sizes - I feel 45 Grade 1 and 2 students in an open environment with a lack of equipment is way too many. Unfortunately the Principal thought otherwise.
Most of my students used to love their lessons but then again they only received one or two lessons a week.
Most of the students liked me but some parents used to complain that I made them change into sweats and a t-shirt for their lessons.

Hey Doug, here's my responses to your questions.
Do you think students get enough P.E./ Physical Activity? If not, how much do you think they should get?
I'm in an overcrowded elementary school where some students don't even get gym once a week. I feel that all students should get PE at least 3 times a week for at least a 30 minute session.

If you could change one thing about P.E. class what would it be?
As David said in his answers, I think the class size should be reduced. In my school we often have two classes at the same time in the gym. Too crowded.

How do you feel about the P.E. program?
I think PE is a very valuable program. I also feel the same way about music and the arts. Unfortunately I work in a school where these disciplines are not respected as much.

How do you feel about the teachers?
My PE teachers are great. The only problem is that they are often stymied by scheduling problems and other administrative decisions that impact on their programs.

Open Mic Section, feel free to add any addition comments or concerns dealing with P.E.
I thought there was a mandate that all students receive PE several times a week. I wonder why this is not enforced?

I certainly like the refection at the end of class that is a great way of tying things together before the children leave. I do something similar and it's needed as in my school kids have PE only once a week! so without some culminating activity I know that I might miss a chance to make the lesson stick before our next session. With THAT being said you can only imagiine my response to some of your questions! Lee, I've teach PE and there is no mandate for PE before HS. A principal could just eliminate PE from the program and it would be OK and many elementary schools you will notice don't really have PE they have "recess" which is certainly not the same thing.
